Kayak trip along the river Soar - 29th September 2016

Some of the bat group committee and a couple of willing volunteers joined two of the Leicester city's Riverside Rangers on the River Soar, kayaking from Abbey Park up to the Space Centre.  It was quiet at first but then the bat detectors got very noisy! All kitted up with the necessary life jackets

Enjoying the tranquillity of the River Soar albeit a little quiet in terms of bats.

At last, some bat activity and not just any bat.....Nathusius pipistrelle!

Analysing the sonograms afterwards gave us some interesting results.  This sonogram shows three species of bat - Nathusius pipistrelle,

common pipistrelle and a Myotis sp, probably Daubenton's.
